JP Bourget is a father, founder, sometimes reluctant CISO, and advisor to entrepreneurs. He co-founded Syncurity, a Security Automation Orchestration and Response (SOAR) company in Rochester in 2014, which exited in 2020 to Swimlane. He grew up in Buffalo, and lives in Rochester currently, with his wife and 4 children.
Currently, JP is President of Blue Cycle LLC, which advises on cyber security operations maturity, and develops security data pipelines and integrations for enterprises, MSSP/MDRs and cyber security vendors. He is also the Entrepreneur/CISO in residence at Lytical Ventures, a NYC based VC fund investing in cybersecurity, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Locally, JP is a UNY50 member, a group of entrepreneurs, VCs and others in the Upstate NY area which leverage their network and experience to founders in Upstate NY. JP is also a founding member of the Polaris Collective.
JP enjoys mentoring and advising first time founders and helping them short circuit their journey to success. He also enjoys punk rock, cycling and hanging out with his kids.
JP has a BS in Information Technology (2005) and a MS in Cybersecurity (2008) from Rochester Institute of Technology where he was an adjunct professor from 2008-2012.. In the past JP was active with the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition in the Northeast, RITSECs Red/Blue team competition ISTS, is a founding member of BSides ROC, has been attending Defcon since 2008, where he has organized the Defcon Bike Ride since 2011.
