Lucas Nelson is a Founder and Managing Partner at Lytical Ventures and a member of its Investment Committee. A former hacker turned venture capitalist, Lucas brings deep technical expertise in cybersecurity to every stage of investing—from deal sourcing and technical diligence to portfolio strategy and founder support.
Lucas began his career in the 1990s underground hacking scene as a member of Ninja Strike Force, a subgroup of the legendary Cult of the Dead Cow. He later joined @stake, the elite cybersecurity consultancy, where he legally broke into banks and internet companies before its acquisition by Symantec. His cybersecurity peers/colleagues include numerous well-known industry luminaries.
In venture capital, Lucas worked at Evolution Equity and Gotham Ventures before co-founding Lytical Ventures. He also held operating roles at Adobe and several startups, giving him firsthand experience with high-growth challenges.
A Kauffman Fellow (Class of 2015), Lucas holds an MBA from Dartmouth and a BS in Computer Science from Purdue. His lifelong connection to the hacker community continues to shape Lytical’s edge in cybersecurity investing.
